What MLM Leaders Know that You Don’t

Network marketers never stop recruiting. There’s a couple reasons why. Number one, network marketing is about us moving product. We are basically promoters for the company because the company is not spending millions of dollars on advertising. So it’s our obligation if you want to be a paid affiliate or distributor to move product.

And this is something that we need to do every single day for many, many years. And the people that think that they just need to recruit a few people and then sit back, are in the same group as the MLM lottery ticket chasers, the people that are constantly looking for that one leader to make them rich, or that one compensation plan to make them rich.

All the leaders, the true leaders understand that it’s a consistent action plan every single day for many months, many years and they move products along with teams. A lot of people abuse that leadership role by sitting back and just watching their downline hustle and, you know, battle in the trenches, so to speak. True leaders stay in the trenches with their downline, with their distributors, and they move product.

If you want to set up a better business where you’re not just killing yourself trying to pitch your MLM on Facebook and other social media platforms, start creating content because that content can start generating new leads and sales for the next few years.

If you look at the top of Google, they will usually have three recommended videos for a search term. And then you’ll see articles at the very top like if you type in network marketing prospecting training or whatever, you will probably see a couple videos that are dated back to 2015 and 2014. Those videos have been at the top of Google for many years. And those people that created those videos are getting leads or sales because they put their link under the video in the video description. And so, basically those videos and those articles are just generating machines for many, many years.

The other thing is that many of the top leaders in the industry have been in the same company for 10 to 20 years there. It’s very unlikely that someone has gotten huge success in under three years. There are chances if you’re an extrovert if you have thousands of friends that support you and love you and do whatever you say then yeah, you could have quicker success. You could do Facebook Lives and say hey, this is my products check it out and you’re going to have 100 signups, but most people, they don’t have a huge network to begin with, or they haven’t been in a previous MLM.

Other leaders can skyrocket into any company that they sign up with because they’ve done MLM for 10 to 20 years, you have to put in the time no matter what.

What most leaders do is they come into a new MLM, and they do a launch party, they do a 90 day Blitz and they say “Hey guys, I started something huge you need to see” and they email all of their contacts. They do Facebook Lives, they start creating YouTube videos every day, because they’re creating momentum because they know that once they get that jet up in the air, because you know they say that most of the fuel is expended on the takeoff with a jet. Same thing with MLM once you get that team going with momentum, then you have a group going. But you can’t just sit back once you get a group going, you have to do it with them for many, many years, constantly contacting people, constantly recruiting.

I was looking at my dashboard the other day and I’ve recruited 1450 people. Now you might be like, well, you’re special; you’re a blogger and my blog did very well when our product went mainstream, and everyone was jumping in. My blog was seen by a lot of people and they jumped in. But I’m still recruiting today. In fact, every single day, I’m tweaking my marketing. I’m looking at what’s working, I’m looking at what’s not working. I’m not an expert, because marketing is always changing.

You can’t just set and forget ads, and think that they’re going to work for the next 20 years, you have to go back in and be like, Alright, what’s working, for instance, I wanted to get my videos ranking in YouTube. So I started doing Google ads for my videos, I did display video ads, and that’s where you see the little promoted video at the top right of your search results. And I was like, this is great, I’m going to get leads and I’m going to get subscribers. And it will help rank that video.

I did that for about a month with different videos. I was constantly tweaking it and looking at which videos were getting the most views. I was getting like one cent views and I was so excited. But what happened was that it destroyed my watch time . If you go to your analytics and your YouTube see when you’re doing paid advertising, you’re gonna get a lot of people that just don’t know you, they don’t know your product. And they’re going to click off in like five seconds. So when you get 5000 people looking at your video and they click off in 10 seconds, that destroys your average watch time.

Okay, now, is that something that you can handle? Were you getting leads, were you getting signups? I got maybe 100 subscribers. I spent like $500 I got 100 subscribers, and I got maybe three leads. So this isn’t working. So paused it or deleted the ads and moved on.

Then I went over to Bing Advertising, I’m using Bing and I’m starting at 10 cents an ad. Okay, I’m not getting anything. Okay, I’m going to raise it to 20 cent clicks and then I’m going to add some countries. Okay, that didn’t work. I’m going to add 20 new keywords and get rid of some really general keywords. I’m going to just target MLM people that want new MLM opportunities.

So my keywords were like, how to join MLM best MLM companies best MLM opportunities, best network marketing opportunities, etc. And so all the keywords are for people that are looking for a new MLM. And I was like, all right, 40 cents, still not getting clicks, I’m gonna increase it to 55 cents per click. Now I’m getting clicks. I’m like, okay, and these people are looking for a MLM opportunity and that’s great.

So I’m going to leave that. So that’s how you keep doing marketing. And then you just keep creating content, you keep creating content, you do videos and you put your link under the video description. You can do blogging, but that’s another thing that I stopped. I was like, you know, I’m writing 800 words, and my blog is getting killed by Google, somehow one of my blogs. I started posting articles for other people. I was making good money doing it last year. But they’re very poor quality articles, like 500 word articles with tons of External links in it going to other spammy websites not even related to network marketing.

I was just like, I’m gonna use my blog to make money. I did that for a year. And you know, I made like, $15,000 it was great, but it further destroyed my blog. And now my blog has a spam score of like eight out of a 10, which is horrible. Google’s like, Alright, we’re not going to give you any more traffic. So with my big blog that I made a lot of money with with MLM over the last six years now gets like 20 views a day, Google just destroyed it. They’re not giving me any traffic. I’m not gonna spend two hours writing an article when Google just isn’t giving me traffic. So that’s something that I stopped as well. I stopped writing articles about  a year ago on that one, because I was like, you know, not getting any traffic, there is no return on my investment.

So you got to look at the ROI. And you can keep prospecting using many different platforms, but you got to constantly be learning new tactics and techniques, because like I said, I recruited 1400 people, but it wasn’t just for my blog.

I’ve done everything, from Twitter in 2014 2015. I was using just direct messages, I automated my direct messages on Twitter and I recruited like 100 people, the first two years in my first MLM.

So you got to find what works and keep doing it for a while, and it’s not gonna work forever, okay, let’s just say that. If you look at some big YouTubers, like Tai Lopez, he was doing ads all day long and he made millions, standing in front of his Lamborghini in his library and saying, you gotta acquire knowledge if you want to make money. You know, buy my product, 67 steps to wealth or whatever, whatever his product was and I bought it, but now I don’t see tai lopez at all anymore. So you have to do stuff until it stops working.

And then you gotta keep readjusting your ads. The bottom line is you have to keep recruiting every single month with your team, you can’t just sit back and be like I got a team because that team is going to look at what you’re doing. And if you’re jumping MLM companies every six months, they’re gonna stop following you to a new MLM they’re gonna be like, I’m not gonna follow you anymore because you’re looking for a lottery ticket. You’re looking for that one leader, that one company to make you rich and true MLM leaders, they stay in the same company until the company either goes underground, or, you know, they just retire and they die. And they will their MLM downline to their grandchildren.

Like Dexter Yager from Amway, you know, he made like $400 million with Amway. He was with Amway I don’t even know how long 30 to 40 years. So you want to get legacy income with MLM. I mean, this could literally be your pension for the rest of your life. I don’t want to spend all this energy looking for a new company and reestablishing a brand and okay, I’m in a new company, I got to write, you know, I got to write 500 new articles for that company. I got to talk to all my friends again about this new MLM. It’s just a lot of work.

Especially right now with the coronavirus and the stock market tanking. You don’t want to be jumping around, you just want to hunker down because we can pretend that a huge Blizzard is coming, or a famine or whatever, hunker down and just laser focus on your MLM that you’re in with now because the top leaders have been in their MLM for over 10 years, okay, and this can be life changing income every single month, you’ll get a residual income check. And it doesn’t matter if your team is quitting because you’ll get a new team.

If you’re recruiting every single day like I do, you’re gonna get people that eventually get it. And they have a long term vision and they’re like, let’s do this. I’m settled. I’m going to do this for the rest of my life. Yes, I know I have generate leads every day. Let’s do this. And I’m like, great, I’ve been waiting for you. Let’s do this. You know, and they might last two years or they might last five years. They might last all the way till the very end. And you can hug each other at the convention and be like, what a wild ride but we made it.

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Erik Johnson
