Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. This is Erik Johnson. So today I am going to talk about how to start a MLM business online and what to expect. So as you know, network marketing is the technique or business model, where distributors instead of paid advertising commercials are the vehicles that move the products for the company.
So if a company wants to save money, and they don’t want to spend money on traditional advertising, they can employ a network of people like you and I to promote the products, and we get compensated for it when we sell products. So that is network marketing in a nutshell.
So I’m going to talk about how to position yourself so you can start doing that without being pushy, desperate, or spammy because a lot of people when they start network marketing, they Just start spamming their links everywhere, making just gigantic, unrealistic claims about their products and unrealistic financial claims.
It is a real business, it’s going to take time, it’s going to take either money or time from you to get enough traffic, people looking at your websites, because it’s a real numbers game. Even though some people might say it’s a relationship game. It’s both. You’re going to need a lot of people to look at your websites and decide if they want to place an order or not.
If you want a 10x your income, you would want to start recruiting people that want to build a business as well. Because if you just think that you can sell products out of your house, and pocket the profit you’re missing the point of network marketing.
The real big money comes from you developing a team of people that are building their own teams. So I would rather make $200 a month, every single month from someone who I brought in who is building a team because I get paid commission’s on everything they do rather than a customer that just buys one time and I make a $20 profit.
So I am looking for people who want to build a business online. So there’s two ways you can grow your business. You can lead with the product or you can lead with the opportunity, the business opportunity. Leading with the product means that you just talk about your products and how great they are. You know you say things like I lost five pounds with this I feel great. I woke up early, I have so much energy, you can say things like that possibly.
There is a very fine line though because if you say something else about your products, you could be warned by the company. So technically I usually stay away from product claims. Leading with the business opportunity is more like, would you like supplemental income? Would you like some extra income to supplement your full time income? Would you like some extra income if you’re laid off? Or would you like to work from home instead of being stuck in traffic for three hours a day?
I do things more like that because I’m looking for people who want to build a business and make supplemental income or additional income. And it’s a lot safer because you’re not talking about products where you can actually get in trouble with the company for saying things about the products.
You can also avoid product debates with other distributors in other companies because that could happen easily if you start bragging about your product and then someone comes along and says, Well, my products are better and technically, most MLM products are very good. So the bottom line is getting people excited, and most people need supplemental income. So I always lead with the opportunity.
The next thing you want to do is position yourself and brand yourself. And that would be creating a blog. You can do social media, like a fan page on Facebook or a LinkedIn profile. But if you start a blog, with your name, or your name and you can add marketing to it like Jane Doe marketing, you’re gonna have to figure out how to set up a blog. That could be your home base.
Now I know we get websites as network marketing distributors, we do get websites, but people are gonna want to learn more about you before signing up with your network marketing business. A blog is a great way to establish trust. And if you start writing articles on your blog, you could show up in the search engines eventually, which will generate you leads and traffic for years to come.
All the big network marketing leaders have a blog and they are attracting leads around the clock. Because this business, you cannot stop growing it. If you stop growing, you start dying. And the leaders understand this and the best way to keep growing without spending a ton of money on buying leads or buying clicks is to create content online. And that could be a blog, it could be a YouTube channel.
YouTube is practically free. I mean, I just use my iPhone, I upload the video to YouTube and I put my landing page link to my business under the videos that generate me leads. So I would also create a YouTube channel. So if you create a blog and a YouTube channel, and you start posting your stuff on social media, if you created a blog post, share it on your own social media. Same with YouTube. There’s social media share buttons under these, you know, under these videos, you can share your own videos on your Twitter, on your LinkedIn on your Facebook, get it out there and people start to see you.
But if you want to really jumpstart your business in the beginning, you’re going to want to do paid advertising to get your links seen or buy leads, buy leads or buy clicks, leaders will tell you to start with your warm market, which are friends and family, people that know you, because it’s an easy market. It’s an easy market to jump into, because people already know you, like you, and love you. They’re more likely to sign up in your business.
So leaders say, talk to all your friends and family. The problem with that is that most people don’t know how to speak properly about their business, and they turn off their friends and family. Because the friends and family are like, Oh, you’re an MLM. Or these people go on their Facebook and start just blasting everyone in the messenger, the chat box, people they haven’t talked to for 10 to 20 years, and they’re just waiting to pounce on them with their company pitch. So it can ruin a lot of friendships and relationships.
I’ve never really done Facebook, I started my blog, I started writing articles. I started doing YouTube. And eventually I learned how to do paid advertising. And all I do is I lead people to my landing pages. a landing page is a signup form where your prospect can take a free tour into our business and look around.
I do this because most people are not going to buy the first time they see your website. a landing page is great, especially if it’s connected to an automated email system like ours, where they start getting emails every day or every other day about the opportunity. And because it takes many times for someone to finally say yes, I want to do this. So I don’t usually share my company website. I share the landing pages I get leads.
I generate leads by those landing pages because when someone signs the form, I get an email that says, great job you generated a lead. And so I just let the company email my leads. I don’t call them I don’t email them myself. And I just generate enough leads and then eventually I start getting signups because I have so many leads, the emails start to work, and you will start to get certain people that sign up.
You can also learn how to prospect and if you want to do phone calls, great, but you have to find some scripts. Todd Falcone is a great person who has scripts. He has a book called The Little Black Book of scripts. I suggest you order that on his website. If you want to do phone calls and speed up the process even more, get good at the phone and you can convert any leads that you generate.
So the bottom line is you need, like I said in the beginning, time or money or both and you have to do this consistently for a couple years, up to five to 10 years, until it just starts growing on its own and that’s how you grow a business that grows on its own – is that you teach people how to generate their own leads. It’s all about duplication.
So you want people that sign up with you to duplicate a simple system that your sponsor taught you. So if you learned how to do paid advertising, and it’s working for you, send a welcome letter to all of your new distributors, with that same technique. Get them going and some people are not going to do what you want. All you can do is just let them do their own thing and let them reach out to you later on. Do not force them, do not bug them every day. Why aren’t you growing your business, some people are not going to do anything.
You have to keep recruiting new people to offset the people that quit. And a lot of people can’t handle this. They take it personally when someone quits. And you can’t do that in this business. It’s just business and some people aren’t interested and they tried it out and they quit. It’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything wrong. All you can do is keep recruiting new people, and eventually you will get two to five people that are your leaders that will probably generate 80% of your income in the long run.
Work with them – form relationships with the people that are working. Keep doing training. Keep reading ebooks about network marketing. keep improving yourself, and you will start attracting higher quality people. If you don’t know anything, you’re gonna attract people that don’t know anything.
The more you learn, the higher quality prospects you will start to attract. And stay committed to one company as long as you can because if you keep changing companies, people are going to start to doubt you. They’re not going to want to take the risk and join you because you’re constantly changing companies. So stay committed to one company, even if it gets really hard, because it could be very hard the first two years until you understand it more and more.
I suggest you look into Go Pro by Eric Worre. It’s an audible book. I think he has an ebook but I don’t know. I only see the Spanish version. So you might have just Audible.
Start learning about network marketing because it acts like a different profession. It’s not like any other profession, where in the corporate world, you step on other people to get to the top. In network marketing, you get to the top by helping people. So you really have to become selfless. And stop worrying about how much money you make, get people on your team making money first, because you will earn a commission from that.
So it’s better to help people get to the finish line before yourself. And you might have to do a lot of soul searching in the beginning to get there. I was a very self centered ex alcoholic when I started back in 2014. I was greedy, and I got my butt kicked, because network marketing will teach you a lot about yourself, by the way you treat others.
So really work on self development. Get a mentor. Get the best ebooks on entrepreneurship on Amazon. watch YouTube training videos, take notes. Start regurgitating the notes and write your own articles on your own blog and that will really cement the knowledge that you learn. And keep doing it until it’s a habit. Try to create content every other day.
Eventually, you’ll have a couple hundred articles or a couple hundred videos. Google will start indexing your content and you will start generating leads from the cold market – people that don’t know you and that’s the greatest thing in the world because there’s unlimited cold market prospects out there that are looking for a MLM opportunity just like yours. So hang in there.
You’re in a very exciting profession. You can make unlimited income with this. There is no income cap, there is no income ceiling. You make what you want to make by how much effort you put in and the team that you develop. You can make over $100,000 a month with this profession legally, and it’s a very powerful way to become empowered and do what you want with your life and change your life forever.
