Had a person email me last night saying that they wanted an enthusiastic sponsor to sponsor them into a network marketing business. And so, to me, I had a sense that they wanted a very hands-on upline cheerleader type person that’s on social media, that will motivate them and inspire them.
And here’s the thing, here’s a quote, and I just made it up for MLM. “It’s not what your sponsor can do for you. It’s what you can do with your sponsor.”
Here’s another one you know. You can lead a horse to the water, but you can’t make them drink. So I’m not the right guy. I was honest. I wrote back and said, I’m a hands off internet marketer. I do make a full time income with it – because she wrote back and she was like, you must not make a lot of money, so what do you do for a living?
And so just that tone right there? Do I really want to work with that person? So I wrote back I said, You know, I do make a full time income with network marketing and I have for the last three years, actually four and I said, I’m just not a hands on social media kind of guy. I’ll give you all the tools you need. So like leading the horse to water, I lead my prospects to lead generation.
That’s all that matters in network marketing – people complicate it. They think they need to get on webinars every day and watch Facebook Lives and get on zooms and you know, spend three hours a day on training. When the bottom line is all you have to do is share your website with enough people and you will get signups. That’s the bottom line. It is a numbers game.
I’m very good at the numbers game. I just do it with content marketing. I do the videos. I do it with my blog, I do it with paid advertising. I’m basically an affiliate marketer trapped in MLM. Okay? And there’s nothing wrong with that.
As independent reps, we can promote our business any way we want, we can design our life around our business like we want and I really do like working only one hour a day. And there’s people that can’t accept that they want to bust their butt, they want to break their neck and they want to work 14 hours a day, and hustle and grind just like Grant Cardone teaches everyone to 10X it, and just get exhausted and wake up at 4am and go to bed at 2am and that’s not me.
I want to work one hour a day and then I want to go out and do yard work and I want money to come in whether I work or not – passive income. I want my business automated, and there’s plenty of people out there that want to automate their business as well.
A lot of people don’t even join MLM because of that pushy sponsor, who tells them what to do every day, you know, gives them a checklist to do or a worksheet or, like it’s another job. It’s not a job, you design your business your way.
So there’s gonna be people that don’t jive with what I do. So I wrote back and I said, there is actually someone who would fit your personality. I didn’t say that. I said, you know, I do know someone who fits that criteria, what you’re looking for, and check them out.
And that’s fine. Our personalities did not match. And that’s common in network marketing, because it’s a people’s business. We’re all people with different personalities. And sometimes there’s going to be conflict. And I just said, I might not be the right guy. I’m just a blogger, I’m a YouTuber, and I’m an internet marketer, and I make plenty of money.
You know, I’m not the top leader. I’m not bragging. I’m not saying I make seven figures a year. No, but I make enough to work from home, I can go out and yard work, I can make dinner with my wife, I can enjoy my life. I’m just not on social media. I’ve never liked Facebook, you know, been In Facebook Jail like 20 times, and then it’s not even a social media platform anymore. People are censored left and right by Zuckerberg. Twitter’s just as crazy. If I had my way I would delete both of them. I only need paid advertising. I need my blog and my YouTube. I’ll show you how to generate leads every single day. I can make it passive for you. You can make it automated.
All you gotta do is just run ads, do some YouTube videos. And if you use Facebook, I even have some tips for that, but I’m not on it. I don’t need to be on it and I don’t need to be a cheerleader.
So, it’s your decision, but you have to make the effort. You have to work with your sponsor. Your sponsor is not going to do it for you. They’re there just to guide you. Okay, they can motivate you and they can inspire you. That’s great. I never had a sponsor. You know, the first sponsor I had I blocked him because he was so pushy. And then the second business I joined, I didn’t have a sponsor, because I came over in a business merger. Our company was going down in flames and was bought out by another company. I came over in a merger, I didn’t have a sponsor, but I had enough desire to make it. And I made it on my own without a sponsor, so you don’t need a sponsor to have success.
It’s like everywhere else in your life. You don’t need someone to hold your hand for you to do things. You just do it. And that’s the same thing with MLM. It’s not a lottery ticket. It doesn’t matter who you join. What matters is you learn how to generate leads and do it consistently for three to five years and you will get success.
Most people just quit. Even with the most hands-on training – 97% of people still quit MLM. You have to really want it. Your back has to be against the wall, you have to be, you know, most people that make it are poor. They just went through a divorce or something horrible, your backs against the wall and they put all their energy into it to make it work. That’s the type of energy you need, and you need it consistently for three to five years. You need to generate leads every single day.
It’s not a one time deal. You can’t just recruit your uncle in the business and hope that he makes you a millionaire. You need to recruit 100 to 500 people, and only three to five are going to do anything. That’s the reality of MLM. If you can embrace that, then sign up and start generating leads. If you can’t embrace it, and you need your sponsor to hold you up every single day because you feel a little blue, you’re not going to last.
This is internet marketing. This business is network marketing. You know, network marketing is fun. But it’s not a party, you have to hit the pavement and you have to generate your own leads, and share your website with thousands of people to get enough orders and then half of those people are going to quit, and you have to keep replacing them.
That’s the truth about MLM. So you decide, is your sponsor going to just miraculously change your life? Are you going to put all of your hopes on another human being who has their own problems? You make the call. Love you guys. Talk to you soon.
